Christopher Heim’s practice focuses on employment law, workers compensation, and business transactions.
Mr. Heim began his career with a transactional firm and then gained litigation experience with a mid-sized San Diego civil litigation firm. Eventually, Mr. Heim began taking on workers compensation cases, where he has handled over 600 cases from inception through trial. Before co-founding the Matrix Law Group, APC. Mr. Heim ran a solo law practice. Most notably, Mr. Heim won a complicated “arising out of the course of employment/scope of employment (AOE/COE)” trial where the defense relied on an intoxication and “benefit of the employer” defense. Mr. Heim zealously represents his clients, always putting them first.
Mr. Heim holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of San Diego and a Juris Doctorate degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of Law Review.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Heim worked for two software companies in the areas of Financial Planning and Analysis and Account Management.
Mr. Heim is a member of the California Bar, the San Diego County Bar Association, the Labor & Employment law and Workers Compensation sections of the San Diego county bar. He also belongs to the Honorable Fiorenzo V. Lopardo American Inn of Court.
When not practicing law he enjoys running and spending time with his wife.
Matt provides Outside General Counsel & other legal services to a wide variety of businesses from cosmetology to construction. Before practicing law, Matt managed a team of over 25 employees where he was actively involved in their hiring, training, discipline, and termination.
As a current small business owner, Matt is personally experienced in all aspects of business life from choosing an entity type and negotiating terms to the day to day operations. Through his work and by representing employees in wage and hour claims he is aware of the traps lurking for other small business owners and employers that may expose them to unnecessary risk.
Matt advises his clients on how to avoid common administrative mistakes and operational errors such as misclassifying employees as independent contractors, improper payroll deductions, failure to pay for travel, and failing to adequately calculate wages.
